Move More Freely In Your Hips
Why This Course?
When you let go of thinking that the hips are just another area to “open”, a lot of change can actually take place.
This immersion is designed to restore balance and intelligence to your hips, so that you can move with more steadiness, fluidity, and ease — not just in certain postures, but throughout your entire practice and in your daily life too.
What you’ll get in this course:
3 x 60 minute interactive workshops
Fillable PDF workbook for goal setting & progress tracking
Teacher feedback after each session
BUT…Is This Program The Right Fit For You?
This immersion is for practitioners who:
Practice Ashtanga regularly (up to Janu Sirsasana C and beyond)
Feel limited, unstable, or stuck around the hip area
Want more softness without abandoning discipline or structure
Are interested in how the practice works — not in shortcuts
This is not a passive flexibility program.
This course is for students committed to intelligent, sustainable practice.
Thought Patterns That Often Stall Progress
-

“My hips are just tight"
In this immersion, we’ll examine how the hips function in standing & seated poses, vinyasas, and where effort is often misdirected.
Through specific postural work, repetition, and attention to breathing patterns, you’ll begin to allow depth to develop without forcing or strain.
-

“I've tried to stretch my hips, but nothing changes”
These workshops will focus on integrating hip mobility into the Ashtanga method, rather than treating it as something separate.
We will work directly with breath-linked movement in both held and transitional positions.
-

“When I go deeper, my lower back or knees hurt"
In these workshops, we’ll look at how effort is distributed through the hips, spine, and knees, and where compensation patterns commonly arise.
By refining alignment and engagement in key postures and transitions, you’ll learn how to protect the spine and joints while allowing depth to arise with greater control and stability.

WHAT YOU’LL GET
Workshop 1: Foundations Of Functional Hip Opening
This first workshop lays the groundwork for all hip development in your Ashtanga practice.
Through targeted sequencing drawn from the standing series and early seated postures, you’ll learn how to:
Organize the pelvis and engage the surrounding muscular system,
Discern effort that supports range from effort that blocks it,
Prepare the hips to contribute intelligently to transitions and postures.
This workshop focuses on hip articulation, stability, and coordination in the first half of the Primary Series seated sequence.
We will explore:
How the hips organize in externally rotated, asymmetrical, and folded positions,
The relationship between pelvic orientation and spinal support,
How breath and bandha engagement allow depth to develop without force.
You’ll learn how these postures establish foundational hip patterns that influence the remainder of the Primary Series — shaping steadiness in breath and efficiency of movement.
Workshop 2: Mastering Hip Function In Seated Asanas
This workshop examines deeper hip-opening postures found in the second half of the Primary Series seated sequence..
We will focus on:
Supporting depth through strength and containment rather than collapse,
Maintaining breath and bandha engagement under increased demand,
Reducing compensation in the lower back and knees as range deepens.
This session emphasizes integration and sustainability for deeper opening through (lots of) repetition.
Workshop 3: Safely Working Into Active Depth & Fluid Movement

"Kat has an excellent way of conveying information. She is really skilled at breaking complex movements down into more approachable or bite-size morsels that make sense to students of all different levels and abilities. When someone struggles with something, whether it’s a physical or mental block, Kat meets the person where they’re at. She will come up with a targeted and individualized approach to help someone challenge themselves and find their edge. She works with who’s in front of her rather than trying to fit everyone into the same mold. "

FAQs
-
Each session is one hour long and includes a Q&A portion
-
No! This course is designed for practitioners of all levels. Modifications and progressions are provided so you can meet yourself where you are.
-
All workshops are recorded. You’ll have lifetime access to the recordings, allowing you to revisit the material and integrate it gradually into your practice.
(This is especially valuable as hip function often unfolds over time.)
-
Modifications will be discussed where appropriate, but the emphasis is on principles that translate back into unmodified self-practice.
Props are optional and used only as tools for clarity, not dependency.
-
Accessibility is not a barrier.
Postures are used to illustrate functional relationships in the hips, pelvis, and spine. You’ll be guided in how to work intelligently within your current range while maintaining breath and structural integrity. -
Yes.
Functional hip depth and stability are essential for safe and effective twisting and binding. Into The Depths: Hips establishes the foundation required for the next immersion in the series.
